The New Sedona and Oak Creek Postcard History Book by Victoria Clark

Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon by Victoria ClarkSedona by Lisa Schnebly HeidingerBefore the Covid-19 shutdown befell us, we were scheduled to host local author Victoria Clark on Saturday, March 28th as she presented her newly published book Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon, part od the Postcard History series published by Arcadia Press. Ms. Clark has leveraged her long-time passion for postcard collecting and her love of Arizona history into the creation of this wonderful addition to our local history. It brings together vintage postcards covering decades of history of Sedona and of Oak Creek Canyon. From the early settlers, ranchers, farmers and vintners who were drawn by the promise of free land under the Homestead Act of 1870 right up to the dawn of tourism closer to our modern age, from the movie-making industry heyday to the construction of the highway through Oak Creek Canyon, this book is filled with dozens of visual delights, fully annotated.

Arcadia Press is the greatest publisher of local history in America. They work with local authors and historical societies to drill deeply into the fabric of our country, with books of historic photographs of hundreds of locales, from the largest cities to the smallest towns. Local communities that have had books published about them include Cottonwood, Clarkdale, Jerome and Camp Verde. Sedona has a volume as well, written by Sedona Schnebly's great-granddaughter Lisa Schnebly Heidinger. Some amateur historian in Cornville needs to step up and contact Arcadia, as that town does not yet have a book of its own!

CottonwoodWe currently have all of these titles available for curbside pickup in the store, or they can be ordered through the website for our special direct to home Buck-A-Book shipping.

Many of our local attractions have their own books of historical photographs published by Arcadia, including Tuzigoot and Montezuma's Castle. Arcadia also digs deeply into various themes of localities across America. Local examples include Haunted Jerome, Grand Canyon Pioneer Cemetery, American Prisoner of War Camps of Arizona and Nevada, Northern Arizona Space Training, and so much more! Again, we have most of these already in stock at the store, or you can order through our website.Camp VerdeJerome
