This Week's Hot New Fiction

The Coyotes of Carthage by Steven WrightMasked Prey by John SandfordHere are some of the top new releases in fiction for the week of April 12th, 2020. Mystery/thriller lovers will welcome the 30th entry in John Sandford's Lucas Davenport series, Masked Prey.

My personal favorite is The Coyotes of Carthage, which I read as an advance copy a couple months ago (one of the benefits of being in the book business!) This debut novel by Steven Wright is a great read and very topical, deasling with political manipulation of the media by campaign consultants. Highly recommended!

Popular author and National Book Award Finalist Paulette Jiles is back with Simon the Fiddler, a historical romance set in Texas at the end of the Civil War.

One of last year's most popular books in hardcover is now available in paperback: Circe, by Madeline Miller, a bold and subversive retelling of the Greek goddess's story.

Simon the Fiddler by Paulette JilesFinally, Sci-Fi sensation John Scalzi is back with The Last Emperox, the concluding volume in his Interdependency Trilogy (following The Collapsing Empire and The Consuming Fire. Scalzi is always a wild read, and he's pretty great in person as well, if you ever get a chance to meet him in person. I've met him twice, inclucing when he got into a light sabre battle with a bookseller at the Philadelphia Barnes & Noble.
